Saturday afternoon was so nice we decide to drive to the gorge and take a little hike. The area we went to is perfect for the kids. The trail is nice and flat, wooded and has a stream that runs along side of it. We stepped out of the car, sprayed everyone with bug spray, hooked Buddy to the leash and we were off. Kareena immediately runs after the butterflies and amazingly enough catches two of them all by herself. She carried those poor creatures in her clinched fist for quite a while. We finally convinced her that she needed to let the go and they actually were able to fly away, sort of. One fluttered to the ground and was slowly beating its wings when Kareena decided it would be nice to stomp on it. While Kareena was torturing butterflies, Buddy was taking Izaak for a walk. Izaak loves to hold Buddy's leash and would throw a fit when you had to take it away from him. Most of the time they did pretty well together, we were more afraid that at one of the stream crossings Buddy would run to get through and drag poor Izaak face first into it. We tried keeping the kids as dry as possible until we were almost back to the car. Then, Jason led them tromping through the stream, splashing and having a grand time throwing rocks into the water. We had anticipated them getting wet and so were prepared to re-outfit them when we returned to the car and headed for home. Izaak pretty much conked out immediately and Kareena waited until the Winchester exit before she finally lost the battle. She only got a small nap before she had to be up and ready for her Ballet Recital. |
