We had a great time visiting with Jason’s brother and his family over the long Labor day weekend. Friday, we basically stayed around the house and caught up on some visiting and some sleep. Eric and the kids didn’t get in until early that morning. Later we visited the street dance that was being held down town. That is were the boys all rode the bull.
On Saturday, after going to church and having lunch, we all piled into our cars and headed off to Natural Bridge state park. The kids all had a great time riding the sky lift up and down the mountain. The parents had a slightly harder time, not with the height but with the wiggly kids and the fact that they are all smaller than any of the holes in the lift. The absolute highlight was when Kareena spotted a blue-tailed skink, Jason caught it and all the kids got to atleast touch it if not hold it. We also walked down to view the arch and Jason got Izaak and the backpack stuck in the very narrow gulch you have to go through to get down there. Luckily, we were able to extract everyone without injury. After viewing the arch, we went down to the river and had a picnic. The kids all tried their hands at skipping rocks but, generally just ended up throwing them.
The Daniel Boone Pioneer Festival also had craft booths set up on Sunday at College park. So, that is where we headed after Izaak woke up from his morning nap and the guys got done changing Eric’s oil in his car. We had a good time looking at all the different artisans booths and had an excellent time eating all the not-so-good-for-you food. That night we drove out to Lyckins’ park to listen to Sugarland and watch some fireworks. Unfortunately, we were under the misguided impression that when it got dark they would do the fireworks. That proved very wrong. We enjoyed Sugarland, it got dark, the kids are all keyed up waiting for the show and some other band comes on and starts singing and singing and singing… we were heading for the parking lot, having totally given up on the fireworks, the kids are wiped out and the parents aren’t doing much better, when all of the sudden there was fireworks. We all oohed and aahed and then fought the traffic to get home with kids already asleep in the cars.
Monday morning, Jason wanted to try out the remote control airplane he and Eric had purchased on Friday. They had some success in flying the plane. However, most of their time was spent peeling off all the planes decals to hold the various parts of it together so they could try to fly it one more time. Greg and the girls had fun chasing it and all the butterflies around the huge field.
All too soon, they had to leave and we all had to return back to our daily routines. It was fun while it lasted. |
